    Default retired military, trail journals?

    Hello all,

recently joined WB and love it...loads of great advice and appreciate the experiences you all share

I will be retiring from the Marines in 3 yrs and am planning a SOBO thru hike

I am interested in reading trail journals of those who retired from the military then thru hiked...if you are one please share....I'd value reading about your experience....there will be some unique perspectives from other trhu hikers I would guess...

    Thanks much!

I'm none of the things you are asking for but here is a link to a good journal by Bison who is retired military. He did his thru in 2009 and is very military about the way he does everything. It's a good read. http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=260708

    Thumbs up

I assume you know about (but in case you don't) J. R. (Model-T) Tate's account of his first thru-hike?

"Walking on the Happy Side of Misery," a great book!

There is a former Army Colonel who retired and hiked the AT in 86/87. He wrote two books about the experience entitled "The AT-A Journey of Discovery" and "Onward to Katahdin". He is also the author of "The AT-How to Prepare for and Hike It":http://www.vargooutdoors.com/AT-How-...How-to-Hike-it

I didn't make it too far, but you're welcome to read it. Maybe for "what not to do"! Thanks for your service and happy trails.

Give the TJ of Sailor, Anchor and Oblivious a read. Sailor retired from the Navy and took her hubby and son on a thru hike.

Beach Bum went NOBO in '07 and kept a trail journal. Retired Navy, I believe.
