    Default Bears in SW Viginia?

I am going to be hiking from Damascus north to about Pearisburg later this month, and am wondering if I need to be concerned about bears on this part of the trail. I know there will be other critters about, but what about bears?

Thanks in advance. Can't wait to hit the trail!

Bears can be found along most of the trail, but the only place they seem to become a problem is where they aren't hunted (ie - National Parks). If you are lucky enough to see one, it'll prolly be its rear end as its running away from you. FWIW, I've sectioned from Springer to Troutdale and Virginia is the only state in which I haven't yet seen a bear. I have a feeling that'll change when I hit Shenendoah.
