    Default How many...

tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, etc. do you own? Just recently got into the hiking community and it seems you can always get better. Also after what point do you start to unload some stuff?

I've been backpacking for five years and haven't duplicated much yet. I have a warm weather sleeping bag and a cold weather sleeping bag. I have a z-lite sleeping pad and just bought a neo-air to try. I have two sets of rain jacket and pants because I was disappointed in the Frogg Toggs I originally tried. One backpack. One tarptent. I tend to research the heck out of something before I buy it and then stick with it.

I have camping gear and backpacking gear. While I can use backpacking gear for camping, I don't use camping gear for backpacking (too heavy). I'm always on the lookout for new lighter, durable equipment for backpacking and when I find something to replace an item in my base load, I either sell the replaced item, give it away or move it to my camping gear. Some items are so durable and light weight they will probably be never replaced.

2 tents But, have about 3-4 I can get loaned to me though with a ph call. I'd have them in 3 days if needed. Thinking about another one though. Stay off BPL!
2 tarps Seriously, thinking about adding a third though. They are my go-to shelters
    2 bivies
1 hammock Got to retrofit that to a lower wt though.
4 sleeping bags But, I could get two DEEP freeze(-20 and -40, one down one synthetic) loaned to me in a heartbeat though.
4 backpacks Two the same for typical 3 season thrus. One smaller volume for weekends, maybe 3 day outings, or day hikes. One monster 2 wk backcountry in winter indestructable model. All are betwen 2 and 8 ozs made from the not yet publically released Super Duper Mega Ultra Light virtual reality fabric reverse engineered from the crashed UFO found near Roswell NM.

    And five golden rings
    Four calling birds
    Three French hens
    Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree

I have got to get out and hike soon!

Uh humm, I sometimes break this universal law of Dogwood's hiking galaxy but I try to not buy, eek too much, gear on a whim or amassing gear I rarely or never use. Too many other worthy hikers needing gear that I would like to bestow upon them. Caveat: I don't think I currently have anything to bestow.

When I seriously started hiking again a few years ago, I had to replace almost all of my gear because it was old, heavy and worn-out.

2 tents. 1 for backpacking, 1 for camping.
    1 quilt.
3 pads. I upgraded from a Thermarest Traillite to the Trekker, and I have a ccf to add in cold weather.
2 backpacks. 1 for multi-day, one for day hikes.

I'm looking at a new tarp, new hammock, and maybe a down quilt sometime in the future.

    Default duplicates

2 tents - 1 for backpacking, 1 for festival season
2 cook sets - again 1 for backpacking, 1 for festival season/in the vanagon
2 flashlights - 1 for backpacking, 1 (lantern) for festival season
2 stoves - both for backpacking, 1 specifically (wisperlite) for festival season
    ..that's it for duplicates.

I have basically 2 of everything it seems. Well except for the the things I have 3 of! I don't sell things either, I loan out stuff a lot to my nephews in Scouts and with 3 boys of my own getting older, we'll need more. I'm reoutfitting after a long lay off and having lots of fun. The WWW has made it too easy!

I replaced my old 6 1/2 lb Eureka tent a few years back with a 2lb4oz big Agnes flycreek ul2. I still have the eureka, thinking that maybe someday down the road, ill have need for an inferior tent 3 times as heavy. The only things I can dispose of aftr replacing are boots, and even then, only after theyve been deemed a biological hazard.

My stuff is about as simple as I can get it. I only have one pack that does everything (day hikes, thru hikes, trail work, grocery hauling, airplane carry-on), one shelter, one excellent three season bag, one pad, no stove or cookware, and a small first-aid and essentials kit. When it's time for a trip, it takes five minutes to pack. The same stuff works on bicycle, boat, and car camping trips. I only have one pair of shoes right now, too. Simple is good, and affordable.

I have car/canoe camping stuff and backpacking stuff. I can fully outfit the family for heavy camping and can outfit myself and my son for hiking. 2 tents, 3 packs, 2 down 3 season bags, 2 synth camping bags, 4 self inflating mattresses of varying thicknesses and sizes, 1 tarp.

Car camping gear is in rubbermaid tubs, canoe camping stuff fills a duluth pack, hiking gear fits in a Golite Jam with room to spare.

For the family of 4 (two grown kids), 4 tents, 10 sleeping bags (2 outgrown by kids), 3 Sveas, one Optimus 111b, 3 sets of cookware, numerous pads, 3 tarps, 5 packs (not including daypacks and book bags). This does not count items worn out and discarded over the years. Lots of old school gear that is as good or better than "modern" stuff.

    two sleeping bags
    three tents
    four packs
    three stoves

I'm like most who have backpacking kit and then heavier/bigger car/canoe/basecamp kit. Keep my gear for awhile - in DEC just got rid of my 1978 Northface internal frame pack that I used in Europe back in the day.

    4: 2 tarp tents, 1 tarp, 1 tent
4: 2 sleeping bags, 2 quilts...although one of those sleeping bags was never really serviceable
4 backpacks if you don't count bookbags and my motorcycle pack

One trying to sell the tarp, the good sleeping bag, and maybe 2 packs.

Could be interested in a tarp if people are looking to get rid of them.
