Default AMC Gentian Pond Shelter Closed 7/4/2011-7/15/2011

The AMC's Gentian Pond Shelter in New Hampshire (10 miles northbound from Gorham) will be closed for repair from July 4th to July 15. There are still platforms available for tenting. The next available shelter northbound is Carlo Col Shelter in Maine.

That is a beautiful spot. The shelter looked to be in good condition a few years ago.

I am glad this isn't 2009. I stayed there on July 13th. The platforms were full of a large summer camp group and it rained a lot.

This shelter gets more use than one would normally expect as there is a road (mill brook)that is fairly close by. Its hard to beat the location, although the pond water can get quite rank. The water source on the inlet stream is good. This years mosquito crop in Shelburne is reputed to be quite generous.

It looks like Gentian will be closed for another week. Hopefully we will be able to open it up by Friday July, 22. Replacing all four sill logs, joists, and floor, just seems to take longer that one would expect. It'll be beautiful when its done, set to last another 35 years or more.
    Be well and smile.
