    A pretty good piece, but as usual with most of the media it offers bad advice at times. For instance, It is not "possible to walk the trail without a tent," at least not responsibly. Shelters are often full. To suggest otherwise does a disservice to those without experience on the trail.

    Yes knee damage is possible. Though hikers who know enough to pace themselves properly, are very unlikely to have such problems.
