I would appreciate any info about any postal drops that could occur directly on or near the trail.

You need to buy a Data Book and/or Thru-hiker Handbook/Companion. Everything you'll need to know about maildrops will be in these publications.

Don't forget that the best places to send packages are hostels and outfitters because they have better hours.
