Does anyone know if there is parking available at road crossing with Va 42 in Sinking Creek Valley?

I wouldn't park there myself. No actual parking area to leave a car.

I parked there for 3 nights a couple of years ago, there are spots for a couple of cars. We didn't have a problem, but with any rural road you never know! It's like gambling...it might be safe, but you never know when a drunk ******* gets bored and wants to throw a beer bottle at your window. But, yes you can park there.

No, you are not allowed to park there, although there is some parking up the trail about a mile at a side road crossing. An alternative (that I used twice) is to park down at the B&B, about half a mile down 42. Nice folks. Both are past thru-hikers. Here's the contact info:

Good to know, Rain Man. My hundred miler in October may have to be cut in half due to time constraints, and was considering SOBO so I could park at Woods Hole Hostel (my last NOBO ending point). I'd rather hike NOBO. Your suggestion allows that option. Thanks!

Wonder if they shuttle?... I'll have to call em later...

I'm sure if they don't shuttle, they know who does. Same for Woods Hole. I do know that WB member RatfaceRaines shuttles in the Pearisburg area. He was very helpful to me, though I never got to use his shuttle services as we always had two of our own vehicles.

I was just hiking in that area last week. I left my car at the church, which was several yards south of the At crossing on 42. No problems. I think another hiker was parked there also.

I asked about the church and was told that the church does not allow hikers to park in their lot, so beware and proceed at your own risk parking on private property without asking permission.
