    Default $39,000 backpack sold out

Olsen twins' $39,000 backpack sells out Apparently backpacks are back in style, but don’t think you can just dust off your old Jansport. Women’s Wear Daily reports that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are struggling to meet demand for a $39,000 alligator backpack from their luxury fashion line, The Row.

"If you were ever going to spend $39,000 on a bag, that's the bag you should buy," Barney’s Fashion Director Amanda Brooks said upon the bag’s debut in July.

OK hikers... Who got these? I am bummed...

The 2012 Thrus will make such a fashion statement!

Dang, looks like we'll be watching the Gear For Sale section much closer... Maybe steal one for 30k.

Why would an alligator need a backpack - and one that costs $39K?

Going out to the Everglades this weekend. I will be supplying make it your self alligator back pack kits. Buyer must pay for cage for shipment of alligator.

The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.

Sorry to point out the obvious, but it's a glorified bookbag, NOT a backpack.

    And please don't keel me.

$39,000 for an alligator backpack... sounds like a "croc" to me!

I don't think $39,000 alligator backpacks are what is ailing this economy. To some degree, people that would consciously choose to buy one are, as is an education system and society that encourages such pointless conspicuous consumption - but that is a different discussion altogether. As you likely are aware, ours is a mixed economy, not a purely capitalist one, and the current mixed model is failing to address rising consumer prices, public and private debt, unemployment, a diminishing middle class, etc. The solution, however, is not to be found in touting either extreme capitalism or socialism or any other one sided system, but as we have done before, in using the parts of many economic philosophies that work together for the best results.
