The wife and I are looking to do Newfound Gap to Low Gap OR vice versa. She has some knee problems and the hills do a job on them.Of the two direction choices, which would offer less stress on the knees?ThanksDoug

Downhill is usually harder on the knees. So starting from Low Gap (Cosby?) and finishing at Newfound Gap might be easier on her knees but will involve 3,000' more climbing. Also you will have to deal with the tourist traffic at Newfound when you finish, but you are probably well aware of that.

ThanksI live in the area and ave the love/hate affair with tourists. They are vital to the rea nd re generally good folks. We spend a lot of time answering questions about when the bears com out for pictures, wat time do h bears get fed etc.So, the traffic problems, congestions and small hassles are worth it.As for the hike, I think you are right. Thanks
