    Default Pine Ellis

We just got back from a section hike from Rangeley to Monson. Met Bob Obrien (Rangeley) there and in a discussion about the area he mentioned that Paul (Pine Ellis) had died about 2 weeks ago. Paul and Eileen had been trying to sell the hostel and had bought a retirement home near Andover. Paul's wish (according to Bob Obrien) was to not be institutionalized and to pass when the time came at their new retirement home. He got his wish.

In the meantime, Bob told us that a family member (brother-in-law ???) is at the hostel in Andover and evaluating the possibilities of keeping it open.

Time will tell, but I thought it was important to get out the news regarding Paul's passing. I stayed at Pine Ellis on my thru in 2003 and found Paul and Eileen to be wonderful hostel hosts. On our section hike last year from Rangeley to Gorham we met Paul in the Grafton Notch parking lot. Here's a picture from that day ...

I had a very nice stay at Pine Ellis last summer. They are very good people. Paul was quite sick then. I'm sorry to hear the news.
