Only natural Jif has no PHVO. Regular Jif has PHVO just like Peter Pan and most other regular brands.

Just read a report that peanut crop was down 18 percent this year, so peanut butter will go up 40 percent, along with other peanut products. Dang, what to feed the elephant now?
I was at the store yesterday and all of the regular Jiff PB listed "fully hydrogenated vegetable oils" and not "partially hydrogenated". Perhaps this is new.

My understanding is that peanut butter is more likely to contain the less harmful fully-hydrogenated oil than the partially-hydrogenated oils found in other foods. They used to just list it as hydrogenated oil until people became aware of the health risks associated with the partially hydrogenated oils and they then changed it on ingredient list for clarity. In my humble opinion K.I.S.S.: peanuts + grinder = peanut butter, no need for anything else to be in there.

As for the Nalgene jars I use them too,several different sizes....
On my long backpacking trips I take around three of these Nalgene 8oz containers filled with cashew or almond or peanut butter, another one with blueberry or plum jam, or whatever else you want. Morning toast in the fry pan never was so good until I got these things. I've never seen a "natural" nut butter (i.e. not hydrogenated) sold in a plastic jar, so I transfer the good stuff into one of these jars.
Here's another way to carry peanut butter---make it into homemade "fudge"---
** Mix in bowl a good amount of peanut butter (or cashew or almond).
** Add a generous amount of rice syrup, like Lundberg's.
** Throw in some carob powder---a chocolate substitute.
** Sprinkle in some shredded coconut.
** Knead repeatedly until mixed.
** Transfer into double ziplocs and put in fridge until trip.

Hey! Don't knock shelter mice. They're high in protein. Five or six on a skewer over some hot coals ... perhaps with a nice thai peanut sauce made with Jiff Extra Crunchy
