Default Killington, VT area Thanksgiving week?

Weather forecast looks acceptable on paper, so may be tackling Killington Peak this weekend, and surrounding sections over the next week (hopefully will complete Danby, VT to Hanover, NH). Feel free to PM or post if you will be in the area, and want to join up for a section or two. Bringing lots of Blaze Orange, microspikes for possible ice, and lots of clothing layers -- morning temperatures may be in the 20s, but not much precipitation in the forecast.

I have fond memories of Killington - have not been there in a long time - Enjoy!
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

Be sure and stop at the Whistle Stop in Clarendon at VT103...sure to help the hiker appetite.

Jeff, is the hostel open on Saturday night? The bus leaves from close to Whistle Stop to Manchester on Saturday evening.

This time of year your best bet in Manchester is Sutton's Place...nice guy who has hosted hikers for years.

After an 8 hour drive last night, will summit Killington the easy way to check conditions, then hike down for that Long Trail Ale.

Weather great, trail well maintained between Killington peak and rt. 4. A little bit of ice and a whole lot more rocks than expected. A Vermont mile is definitely longer than a VA or PA mile. Inn at Long Trail - the ale is much better on draft than the bottle. Picture to come later.

Yes indeed..things get a bit rocky in New England. Had the chance to hike some in GA recently...forgot how smooth the trail can be down south.

I think the trail down from Killington took a beating from Irene - lots of clean white rocks on the trail, probably from erosion. It seemed like I wa always going up or down, could never get into a swift hiking stride for more than fifty feet or so. Today was much easier, but another short day. Long trail ale in the fridge, football, a good night... Hope to do a section on Tuesday after working tomorrow.
