I do a lot of winter hiking, in the area, give me a pm if you got a plan but I'd like to do a nice section at some point this winter, I'd more likely be intersted in a Harriman to DWG section bc the snow is much less a problem. I did dalton to Manchester last winter.

My availability is limited but I'd welcome the opportunity. Please keep me in the loop. Full week or just an overnight or two...

If you're not married to the AT idea - the Pemi Wilderness is great - you can hike from Lincoln, NH through the wilderness, catch some of the AT and wind up on Rt 3, Rt 302, or in Franconia Notch - or you can do a loop without getting too high.

Just keep in mind that although it has been unseasonably mild and there is little or no snow left in the Whites, it has rained a lot and along with the snow that we have had which has melted, means the streams are all running high and the trail is really, really, soggy right now. And the trail could be pretty icy in spots which don't get much or any sun. It's still going well below freezing at night.

That said, it looks like the weather will be prett nice this weekend (Dec 2 to 4, 2011) so doing a weekend overnighter someplace would not be unreasonable. The Pemmi would be good, or Gray Knob cabin on Mt Adams.

December is the slowest time of year for hiking. The days are really short and the time warp between T-Day and Xmass leaves little time to do anything. Plus there isn't enough snow yet to make playing in it fun. There is a little snow above tree line, but the rest of the trail is either icy or muddy. Not a lot of fun. But hey, just because no one else wants to go, doesn't mean you have to sit at home...

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.
