There is no trail all the way around the lake, so why call it a hike? More like a walk and too many roads.

It was a pretty awesome bike ride, about 1000 miles as I remember. I did that back in 1975, just out of high school.

I think he is talking about walking along the beach all the way around. Can you camp on the rocks and sand? We have a stretch of beach along the Texas gulf coast that is a tough hike. If you can find something to do, like fish or hunt for Petoskey stones, it would be fun.

There was a couple that hiked around Superior not so long ago. http://www.fullcirclesuperior.org/

There is a newly designated National Recreation Trail that will eventually extend all the way around Lake Michigan. The Lake Michigan Water Trail http://www.lmwt.org/ But it is expected that you will be in a canoe or kayak. A big part of that effort is to work on access points so those travelling the trail can get ashore, camp, resupply ...

There are huge tracts along the shores that are state and national parks, with trails paralleling the coast, but there are also lands owned by folks who don't understand that you have the right to hike up to the beach's high water mark, and would consider one doing so a trespasser.

Of course the North country trail extends around the entire Michigan coast of Lake Michigan. Just a bit inland from it ...

What is your concept of operations?
