How difficult of a hike is it from Newfound Gap to Charlies Bunion? How many hours round trip does it usually take?

"One of the most scenic hikes in the Smoky Mountain. this trip takes you over four miles of the 2,100 mile Appalachian Trail. This hike can be done as a day hike or as an easy over-nighter, camping at the Icewater Springs Shelter. "

it's an easy hike, I'd say 5 hours & your safe, I would hit the side trail the the Jump Off. Enjoy, & try to do it a time where the crowds are low. Winter is the best time to hike out there : O )

I'll second the side trip to the Jump Off, which I did last month. Allow an extra hour, but nice. You get to look down on Charlie's Bunion.

Most AT hikers would consider the hike from Newfound Gap up to Charlie's Bunion to be "easy" as a day hike. Weekenders might consider it "moderate." I think 2 miles per hour would be a reasonable hiking speed estimate.

Well if we are talking extra miles, def do the boulevard up Leconte. Can stay at the shelter on top and then head to Charlies and back the next day.

Keep an eye on the weather if you are going this time of year. The gap road is fatten closed due to snow and ice. Make sure you vehicle has gas and som extra supplies in case you get stick up there overnight. If you do have snow, the scenery is great.
