Maybe you could work out a timeshare arrangement with Lone Wolf.

Tough choice. The four towns out west are in great areas. Lots of towns not on the list. Oh well, voting for Damascus.

Hammondsport is not a bad town either, my bro lives near there. The Finger Lakes Trail goes right by there, if the charm of a small town is a Trail near-by! I voted for Damascus, though, as Trail Days the past 2 years has been a blast!

Damascus is way ahead of Cooke City at the moment.

no mention of the Creeper Trail which really put the town on the map. 100 times more folks come for the Creeper Trail than they do for the AT

Anybody who has ever rented a bike from one of several rental shops and biked the creeper into town -- and seen how many people are shuttled to the starting point every hour on the hour -- knows that this is true.

So this past summer, I hiked from the Roans to about Troutdale, VA anyway, I hiked from Iron Mtn Shelter to Damascus in 1 day - not the biggest hike ever, but I did the 26 miles with a few teenagers that were proud of such a long distance day and they were hungry -- anyway, I went into Quincey's Pizza just about closing time (I was about 40 minutes ahead of my crew being 44 years old and quite a bit faster than 17 year olds) -- anyway, they were getting ready to close the kitchen. I told them of the hikers on the way and they said, "no problem" we'll feed them when they arrive. Probably about 9:30 pm, we ate about 4 pizzas there (I also drank about 3 beers and shot some pool). What a fantastic business - totally indicative of Damascus friendliness --- fyi, we stayed at the Hiker's Inn that night with Lee and Paul -- absolutely great people -- what a treat. Can't say enough good about Damascus.

I voted for Damascus. I've spent time in both Port Townsend and Beaufort, and in all honesty I like Beaufort best of the three. I love the low country, but let's face it, this is a hiker website not a seafood website.
