I would like to see a lightweight aluminum or stainless steel or titanium wide mouthed pot/mug with a sealable lid so you can use it for carrying water and eating/drinking out of. I finally came across stainless steel ones at Canadian Tire about the same dimensions as the 1 litre Nalgene, but same diameter and shorter like 700ml would be better. Also, lighter would be better, so thinner stainless or titanium or aluminum. They were cheap at $5. Not sure weight.
Climashield equivalent to 900 loft down that compresses well.
Truely waterproof very breathable fabric in the 0.7 - 1 oz per SY range
Lighter than air (or close) closed cell foam pad.
This has already been invented. It has helium or some other
gas in the cells.
Titanium Foster cans 18 and 24 oz size.
Cheaper 190 proof Everclear.
PU coated ripstop, real weight of 1 oz per SY
Digital camo ripstop 1oz sil nylon
Cheaper Cuben
Better lighter fast flow water filter in the 3-4 oz range that takes out everything, including chemicals.
Maybe an 8oz wt cheaper lifesaver water filter too. Great idea, just needs some improvements.
Salomon Techamphibian originals returned to production.
Affordable eVent clothing
I second Tammons comment for PU ripstop and better climashield
Water proof socks that are 100% waterproof on the bottoms and side and semi-waterproof(read goretex) on the top and cuffs
UL 100 fleece long johns
tight weave nylon t-shirt to match all the pants!
Driducks welded to UL ripstop instead of that polyfabric
A wicking fabric that doesn't smell
Socks that keep my toes warm (nothing works, not even mylar)
Anybody seen any of these items?
rain pants that really are breathable
goretex and seam sealed packs
sturdy bags designed to go between your socks and your shoes to keep you relatively dry in heavy downpours.
Have you ever seen one of those radio controlled blimps they have at the major arenas? You could hook your stuff to the blimp in the morning, sed it up 200 feet and it could follow you all day and you can land it when you are ready to set up camp, etc.
Lots of other possibilities, too. It could take arial photos, drop water ballons on other hikers, etc. etc., yada yada yada, blah, blah, blah.
I'm not really a hiker, I just play one on White Blaze.
I rarely go into the woods without thinking about what it must have been like for the early pioneers who made it without Goretex, cuben fiber, bic lighters, sole custom inserts, 20 oz tents, etc., etc., etc.....I'm happy to have what I've got...if it gets too easy it aint worth doin.
Skis that stuff into an internal pocket and become a neck pillow
Better yet, have it look like one of those giant floating shark toys that can be controlled by it's tail.

Rain gear that works, a reliable steripen and a platypus gravity filter that's a bit more optimised for thru hikers.
MSR Carbon reflex pole set up that is free standing (like a Hubba)
