    Default 2012 Section Hikers

    Plans for the year?

My plan is to make it to Damascus this year. I will be starting at Spivey Gap. Probably break it up into two trips.

Starting on Springer March 20-21 and I have until June 7 off work. I'm hoping to make it to I-64, waynesboro va in that time.

Not sure yet. I know the approximate timeline -- probably about 3 weeks somewhere between mid-May and mid-June (break from teaching). Also know that its going to be somewhere north of Va 603, Fox Creek (as that is as far north as I've gotten). Beyond that though, I'm still up in the air.

This year I'm scaling back, due to a broken ankle at the end of August. If all goes well, and it has so far (I can walk 3 miles now in an hour, my usual casual pace), I'm hoping to feel ready to section my home state of Connecticut late summer. Before that, it'll be walks in the local parks with my dog, introducing my granddaughter to hiking and camping, and working in my garden.

My plan is to head north from Harpers Ferry around early to mid-May and walk til I am tired of being out there. If that turns out to be Katahdin that would be great but I'm not setting any distance goals this trip.

Ahhh yes...another year, and some more sections. Let's see here, I did VA 611 to Pearisburg in January, and that was fun...a bit cold on Saturday morning (25 F). The loose plan thus far for the rest of this year is to do Pen-Mar park to Pine Grove Furnace SP in April, and NJ/NY (to Arden Valley Rd in NY where I started a section last year) in late May. Not sure about the rest of the year, but it'll probably be a couple of local sections here in VA.

Oh yeah, and I might break 1000 miles this year...woo hoo!

Will be picking up at Culvers Gap in NJ and heading north for two or three weeks in May. Then head back out for two or three weeks in September, picking up where I leave off in May.

Then in spring of 2013 do another couple of weeks, and finish it out in September of 2013, after I semi retire. Hopefully be hitting Katadin in Sept or Oct with the class of 2013.

I haven't actually done the mileage calculations, but I assume this is a reasonable plan.

Come hike up north a bit Jeremy, would love to get out there with you again. Maybe I'll have to revisit someplace in VA once you're up there.

Just did Sam's Gap to Erwin last weekend--great weather! Will resume north from there in May and then again in October; hope to make Damascus this year at least.
