Default Travel from Lone Pine to LAX

What's the best way to get from Lone Pine to LAX? I plan to hike JMT in late July. Jakebrake

Are you headed back to SC after your hike? - if so, it's a lot easier (and faster) to get a bus or shuttle to Vegas or Reno and fly from there...

Transportation alog Hwy 395 changes every year. However, recently its pretty simple to get to LAX now and cheaper then flying out of Reno though going to Reno is much more straight forward.

You, the bus south does not run everyday. But, I left Lone Pine in the morning and made the red-eye to Boston from LA that same evening. Could have made the trip to LA even shorter had I not gotten off at the wrong stop and had to wait a couple of hours for the next link.

Agree with Miner. That's probably the best and most forward way to get from Lone Pine CA to LAX. "The Hound" also services Lancaster CA and goes to Los Angeles. Prefer the MetroLink though and it's faster. You might even like Union Station with its old world mission style architecture. Rambler and Miner both note an important factor though - the bus to Lancaster, the last time I checked, which wasn't that long ago, does't run 7 days a wk. Check up on that or you might wind up in Lone Pine for a day or two. Think HOT and DRY and DUSTY and LONE(LY) in LP in late July/August. I always thought how appropriate caling it Lone Pine.

While getting to Reno(Reno Int AP) from Lone Pine is more straight forward you can get caught overnight in Mammoth Lakes CA if you screw up. Actually ML has a cool town vibe with plenty to do, IMO. Getting to Reno Int AP from Lone Pine is basically an all day affair too. Flying out of/into Reno can typically be pricier than flying into/out of LAX. Never did the LP to Las Vegas trek. I would think flying out of Vegas to SC to be rather cheap though. Not so convinced about the "its faster" description about that option either. I wasn't aware you could rent a car in LP and leave it at LAX if that's what the Solemates did indeed do. Could be a bit pricy but would be the fastest way to get to LAX from LP.
