Default Need some ideas about where to stay the night before

I'm doing a section hike thru Georgia in about a month. I'm driving down from Central NC after I get off work on Thursday the 5th. I will be heading down to Dick's Creek where I will be meeting a shuttle early Friday morning. The shuttle will be taking me down to Amicalola SP to start the trail. I need a place to sleep that night. Are there any hostel's near Dick's Creek? Thank you in advance for any suggestions you could make.

I won't be getting into the area until around 10 PM if that helps.

I second the Hiker Hostel. Best way to start a thru-hike.

Hiker hostel all day. Its a luxury log cabin B&B more than a "hostel". And its $17. Private room is 40. Beautiful place.

Not sure why you plan on driving to Dicks Creek then getting a shuttle to Amicolola.... unless you plan on leaving your car there to hike back to it. If that's what you are doing, the Blueberry Patch in Hiawassee is the place to stay, but I don't think they will be thrilled about you arriving after 10pm. There is also the Hiawassee Budget Inn and the Holiday Inn.

My suggestion is like everyone else's - to head on to Dahlonega instead of dicks creek and stay at the Hiker Hostel. They shuttle to Amicalola or Springer daily. They will also pick you up at Dick's Creek and take you back to your car which you can leave at the hostel while you hike.

Oh, and both places are great! I love Gary and Lenny at the Blueberry Patch as well as Josh and Leigh at the Hiker Hostel. Two very different places, both with great breakfasts...

I'm guessing that if you are meeting a shuttle at Dicks Creek then you are leaving your car there and hiking AFSP to Dicks. If so, ignore all the suggestions about the hiker hostel way down in Dahlonega. The best option for you is to stay at Ron Havens hotel in Hiawasse, which I think is the called the Hiawassee Budget Inn. You would enjoy the Blueberry Patch, but thats not an option if you're arriving at 10. They'll be full, anyway.

Yes I am leaving the car at Dick's Creek getting a shuttle to Amicalola. Thanks for the suggestions. I looked at hiker hostel but the shuttle fees were going to be too much and they couldn't accommodate the late arrival. Seems like a great place though!

What's the problem with just camping at Dicks Creek?

    Yes, absolutely.

Just walk up to the picnic tables and look left. There's an old roadbed heading towards the Blairsville direction. Walk along it and pitch a tent anywhere.

    No muss, no fuss.
