Default Section Hike near Partnership Shelter VA

I'm doing a very short hike this weekend. I'll be hiking from 603 in Virginia just north of Old Orchard shelter and going north to the 601 road crossing. I have an old map for that area and it cuts off before I can see the 601 area. I know it is about 24 miles but I'm not sure how to get to 601. The best I can tell is 601 is County Road 601 aka Pugh Mountain Road. Can anyone give some more details on how to get to that trailhead? Isn't that the one near Partnership shelter?
The key to success in achieving a goal is focusing not on how far you have to go, but rather how far you have come.

The trail crosses 601 before Partnership, but Partnership and Hwy 16 are not more than a couple of miles north of there. It's mostly downhill from there too. If you're leaving a car it will be much safer at the Mt Rogers NRAHQ parking lot than parked on 601. If someone is meeting you they'll also find the HQ easier than that trail crossing. Don't know if that answers your question or not.
