    Default Bear canisters

I read mention somewhere about it being law in certain areas/shelters to use a bear canister. Can anyone tell me if this is true, and if it is which shelters/areas specifically or where I might be able to go to find out?

They are now required from Jarrard Gap to Neels Gap. From March 1st until June 1st. You can go to www.fs.usda.gov to read more about it.

Just don't camp in that section and you don't need the bear canister. It's a short enough section that it's easily hiked in a single day.
    Don't take anything I say seriously... I certainly don't.

I will definitely keep that in mind. Our start date for the section hike got moved back a few weeks due to a wedding so we'll be leaving after the first of June.

It's only a 5 mile section and only required if you camp there. Just hike on to Neel's Gap.
