Free Stoves for Certain Through Hikers / Thru Hikers

I started making and selling stoves a few months ago (BottleStoves.com). I would like to use some through hikers (or long distance hikers, preferably women) for advertising.

Ways to advertise on the trail:

• Mention my site to people.
• Put your stove on a table. Someone might pick it up and see the website printed on the bottom.
• Make a picture/video/post that gets on the internet.

You don't have to do a lot of advertising. Just do what's convenient.

Please convince me that you would be good for advertising. 1 sentence is fine. Don't write an essay.

I'm intending to use a bottle stove, but I don't have much in terms of hardware that makes making them cleaner. I'm thru-hiking this year, and would definitely take it with me. Anyone who asks about it, I'd let them know about your site, and any of my friends from home that aren't hiking, I'd be sure to tell them how they can get their own if they're in the market for an alchy stove.

I never wanted to hike with a pig. I saw that there was a forum for people who hiked with dogs, and I wanted to offer a possibly better alternative.

Advantages of pigs:
- They are far more intelligent than dogs.
- They can be fed any type of food. You might be able to get free restaurant scraps for it.

Disadvantage:
- I don't know what breeds are out there, but most of them have short legs.

I hike around the country on shorter trails so my influence among different groups of hikers is much more varied than just doing one long trail. That is why I would be good for your advertising.

Seriously, my blog is just about backpacking stoves, and I've been averaging about 1200 to 1300 visitors per day lately. Lots of exposure (but no long trails for now; maybe when my daughter gets older). Let me know if you're interested.

Gotta tell ya, I don't think you did Bottlestoves.com any favors with your pig thread. Poor business decision alienating part of your market right out of the gate. Part of the learning curve, I hope you can recapture some of it.

Mr Cabbage Head, please send Hikin_Jim, AKA Adventures in Stoving, one of your stoves. This fella has every stove there is on earth and shares his knowledge far and wide regarding anything stove related.
For example: Hikin' Jim recently brought 60+ stoves to a Back Packing Light event and spent many hours sharing each one of them with folks.
As a recent thru hiker of the AT, PCT and CDT I can vouch for this guy... I never met anyone as passionate about stoves as Hikin Jim.

Free advice from a former Marketing Manager for a Fortune 500 company. Please do not give away to whom you are targeting for promotional/test gear. I am not dissing your promotional ideas, just you have to do it differently. Why? 1. Other stove makers use this site 2. You could alienate clientele 3. You are giving away marketing ideas that could lose you sales I think you have a potential for a successful cottage industry if you 1. Have a good quality product 2. Learn to properly protect yourself legally (Nothing worse than going broke by being sued) 3. Have a good marketing plan I have received gear from several companies to use and abuse sometimes for feedback...sometimes just promotional...some good, some not, some *** were you thinking?!
