Default Does hiking Maine in May work this year?

Was there little enough snow so that there will be a POST-significant snow cover and PRE-blackfly season for hiking in Maine this year? Say south of Caratunk? I did just read about the guys who tried to hike the 100 mile wilderness unsuccessfully... but in six weeks or so, what do you think I can expect? thanks.

I wouldn't hold out hope for bug free, I got my first mosquito bite of the season yesterday, and we usually don't see the bloodsuckers til May (VT). You might want to assume that the blackflies will be out super duper early this year.
