    Please do not do that.
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

I am interested in hearing from any of you who were successful in thruhiking with your dog. If you have a journal, please refer me to it. I had no plans for my Standard Poodle to hike with me; however, it appears that she and I have no choice. If she is coming along, then WE will have a successful hike. I have just got to figure out how best to make that happen. She weighs 51 pounds. I cannot count on being able to lift her. As long as she is with me, she is happy. I know that, if she were able to keyboard this message, it would be to ask entirely different questions. Please share what EXPERIENCED information you believe can help us prepare from physical prep to gear to whatever. Thanks.
You never know just what you can do until you realize you absolutely have to do it.
