Looking for a good 2 person backpacking tent for a good price

Doing Springer to Harper's Ferry with my fiance. We need a lightweight/compact tent that will fit both of us but are on a budget. Any suggestions?

Cabelas XPG Ultralite... 2 or 3 person. My 2-person has worked well (waterproof-easy setup-somewhat lightweight)...

Does it have to be a full blown tent? Many tarp tents will come in at under 4 pounds for two people. Just a suggestion.

I'd go with something from Campmor like Eureka, in fact, I think Eureka makes all the tents in the Cabela's catalog. Eureka is definitely not top of the line, but they are certainly better than Coleman/Ozark Trail and a lot cheaper than Mt Hardwear or North Face.

I think a lot of folks are missing the point here, he said cheap...I am in an agreement with Tipi here. Eurekas are well made and a step up from the Walmart junk and is reasonably priced around $100 to $150 depending what bells and whistles you want. I would check Campmor for deals on the tents...they have got good gear at reasonable prices...and no I do not work for them.

This one is on sale from backcountry for $150. Anyone have any experience using it or hear anything good or bad? It seems pretty lightweight for the price and def a decent brand I can trust. What do you guys think?

It is more than 2 lbs less than the Eden-2, is 6 sq ft larger floor area, and costs more than $35 less. It is more tent for less money and weight.

Love this tent
holds up well and easy to use
but...
fits two people kind of tight
front entrance is a down side and Vestibule
is small

ideally a tent to be used by two people for an extended trip would have two side entrances(one for each person) and Vestibule for gear and footwear storage

that being said, I still use my clip flashlight that is 17 years old and been on a jaunt up the AT.

These days I use it with my girlfriend for 2-4 day hikes. I wouldn't use it for any longer than that if I didn't have to.

Josh, keep in mind that the Shangri-La is a single walled tent. It is important to familiarize yourself with this type of tent and know it's advantages and drawbacks. As a single walled tent, condensation could be an issue if you do not pitch it with good ventilation, especially with 2 of you in the tent.

A double walled tent will be less prone to condensation, but by it's nature, will have more material and will weigh more. Double walled tents also tend to be warmer (depending upon the specifics of the designs) by a few degrees.

Hope that gives you something to look into before you pull the trigger.
