My wife an I are starting around July 8th. Sure we'll meet at some point... Graham and Cindy, no trail names yet. Having a little trouble figuring out a clothing list for the start of the trip. Everything I read says dont underestimate July/August in Maine and New Hampshire. Anybody want to share a gear list or point me in the right direction?

There are 6 of us that are starting between June 27th and July 1st '13, that I'm sure of, and I've heard of at least 3 others besides gwb and unitic.

Partnering up for the 100 mile wouldn't be a bad idea to say the least!
Can someone give me the skinny on the reservations in campsite thing?

I'll be hiking up Katahdin on the 8th and spending that night in a shelter in the Katahdin Stream campground. Then hiking SOBO solo unless I can come up with a partner.

I fly out to Bangor on the 9th of July. I am doing the 100milewilderness shuttle. 100 bucks they pick you up, put you up in a motel, and take ya to the Baxter State Park. My question is this. Why are people make reservations at Baxter for more than one night? I thought you climb to the top of K, hike down, sleep. The next day you begin the 100 mile wilderness. My reservation is for July 10th. Should I make my reservation longer?

I am also just spending one night at Ksc. I thought about staying a few days there to enjoy the scenery but figured i would be to anxious to get started anyhow. One day would work for me and come back another time with the wife and kids for the slower visit.

I am hoping to get started Sobo sometime first two weeks of July also...I have some loose ends to tie up before I can go but I am uncertain how quickly I can get them squared away inhibiting me from being able to set a firm date.
As such, and also because I'm in region anyway...my plan is to take a long weekend and tackle Katahdin. That way when I am able to get started I won't have to deal with the logistics of climbing the Kat...I can get dropped at KSC and start walking.
I have no fear of being solo...figured I would be anyway but company would be nice....but lets get a 'First two week Sobo departure' thread going and keep in touch to make grouping easier?
