Default A Real Thru Hiker...[your quote here]

I'm sure there are some folks here who have heard it all on what makes a thru hiker a "real" thru hiker.

"A real thru hiker passes every white blaze, never blue blazes, signs every trail log..." etc. etc.

I'm curious about the oddest or silliest thoughts folks have come up with regarding what makes a "real" thru hiker, be it how to hike, where to hike, equipment, whatever.

Be creative, and remember it is intended to all be in good fun of course.

A real thru-hiker is constantly keeping an eye on the non-hikers plates during a meal especially when they see the eating has started to slow down.

a REAL through hiker walks only north to south or south to north, never yellow blazes, blue blazes or pink blazes, and carries his entire house on his back. Those slack packers.. they's imposters!

I'm going to assume you mean a thru hike of the entire AT which will then be reported to the ATC when completed.

Start at one terminus and end at the other terminus following all the white blazes. Period.

My own personal code does not allow me to slackpack, but thats ok for anyone else who chooses to do so.

A real thru hiker has perfected the art of LNT and actually levitates above the ground as they walk and sleep, literally leaving no trace.

I am beginning to think a real forum poster is an anal retentive humorless sot who believes HYOH = I am right and everyone else is a contemptible dimwitted chimp.

True, chimps know a hell of a lot more about living out in the wilderness than most humans these days.
