Default I am confused about Baxter State Park?

O.K. I am starting my thru hike July 1st from the Smokies. If I arrive at Baxter Park Oct. 16 will I not be allowed to summit katahdin ?

Here is the link. After Oct 15th, all hikers (including thru hikers), can ONLY hike sunrise to sunset, but only if conditions permit. There is no overnight camping so most hikers either stay at the Abol Bridge Campground or the Abol Pines Campground or a Millinocket Motel.

At any time (before or after Oct 15) a restriction may be issued. If they issue a Class III (some trails restricted) or Class IV (all trails restricted) Restriction, then you will not be able to summit Mt. Katahdin.

The park closes after Nov 1st.

At least that is how I read it. Anyone else with additional info?

I am weird because I do a lot of winter hiking. First, I have gone 2 weeks alone without seeing another person. Second I get better treatment in town because there is more resources.

Now I am clean cut and I shaved. No one recognizes me now. I truly love the A.T. and the people I meet on it. A.T. people are kind, caring, thoughtful and Christ like.

I was at Baxter this past November 1 and had trouble convincing the ranger that it was OK to road walk to Katahdin Stream campground and walk SOUTH to Abol bridge and the park boundary and onward. Summit? no way I could see. And the place was deserted except for a few hunters. You like solitude? Jump north from Monson to Baxter, summit close to October 15th and walk south through the 100 mile wilderness to finish your thru in Monson around October 19th or 20th. I've got to go check out your videos!

No more 'class days,' the Mountain is now either open or closed.
October 15th is the end of overnight camping season, you can still day hike - weather permitting - until November 1st, when winter hiking rules begin.
    The Park is open year-round.
Consider starting at Baxter and hiking home.

"[ATers] represent three percent of our use and about twenty percent of our effort," retired Baxter Park Director Jensen Bissell.
