Thread: Belt Question

  1. #1

    Default Belt Question

I've been searching for a comfortable belt to wear on long hikes. Most I tried dig into my bony hips when my hip belt is tightened down or won't stay tight when they get wet with sweat. Any suggestions?

hmm - I almost always wear Mountain Hardware Canyon Shorts - they are nylon and have a built in nylon belt. In the winter, I wear long pants or rain pants with an elastic waistband I really don't know many hikers that hike with pants with belt loops but I do like these belts to wear around town - they are made in Colorado:

If you just have to have one, try a 1" nylon web with a side-release type buckle. You can always use it for other things.

Go to REI or your favorite outfitter and get a compression strap. Cut it so you only have 3 inches adjustment and melt the end.

+1 to both posts, I use pants that need a belt and have used various kinds tht are basically 1" webbing with some sort of clasp.

One thing to note is that the webbing belts I've used seem to have a limited lifespan, after a while the webbing starts to slip, I assume it's because the buckle starts to wear the webbing down and make it smoother with use, but I'm not sure.

Also, I recommend looking for a belt with the smallest buckle possible, this will minimize problems with the pack hip let pinching it.

For what it's worth the two I've used most recently are below. My current belt is is from ems and uses two D rings for a closure. Bison belts are just as good, so it's just a matter of preference.
