Default Please recommend some good trail journals by women

I did my longest section hike a few weeks ago and loved it and now I want to thru hike. But it will be a while, so I'll continue section hiking until then. I won't be able to do much more this year. Hoping to get out once in September for a long weekend.

Can someone recommend a few trail journals - by women in particular? I'm having trail withdrawal.

I've already read Certain's and Persistent's journals, those were great.

    Thanks in advance!

If you want a book to read, I highly recomend Becoming Odyssa by Jennifer Pharr Davis

I really liked Mickey's in Trail Journals this year (her full name is Mickey Amundsen). Balls and Sunshine's is by a girl and her dad, mostly her dad, but she has nice things to add on most days. Those have been my two favorite journals of the year. Lyn's is also pretty good, and still going - she's getting close to Katahdin by now, should summit within the next week or so. There are some good ones by married couples, too, the Troverts and the Charons, who are both still on trail.

Also, if you haven't already, check out the Barefoot Sister's books, Southbound and Walking Home, about their yo-yo hike from Maine to Georgia and back in 2000-2001, mostly barefoot. Does a great job conveying what the experience of thru-hiking felt like for them and their peers on trail. The sisters' names are Lucy and Susan Letcher, trail names Isis and Jackrabbit.

I forgot that Mickey Amundsen's trail name is Mouse. Here's a link to her journal: http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=13033

On the Trail Journals website, search for "trainwreck".

I don't know her except from her online journal ... she's done several thru-hikes and her writing style is entertaining. Reading all the entries for one of her thru trips is a good way to kill a few hours!

Second Stage tried a thru this year alone. She had to get off the trail finally because of injury. Her last post was July 1 but up until that time I was enjoying her updates. http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=384736 She broke her arm along the way but healed and returned to the trail only to be sidetracked by a knee problem.

Here are a few that I follow this year. They all have posts written by women, but some are hiking as a couple which makes for a different journal than a solo woman. Enjoy!

"Becoming Odyssa" is an awesome book! One of the best I've read about an AT hike!

Another vote for Mouse. She's a real sweetheart whom I was lucky enough to have met and hiked with through parts of Maine this year.
Also, from last year, there is a lady Flame who I met dayhiking in PA. She made it the whole way. I enjoyed following her journey on TJ

i just met a woman named Wildflower on the trail these past few days. She has a trail journal under the name Lyn, which is her real first name.

Ditto! Loved this book. One of my favorites. Terri Crouteau hiked the trail in her mid-50's. Her observations on the trail and the entire trail experience are priceless.

Just for clarification, that's not me...wondering if I need to get another name?

Jan LiteShoe is a gifted writer. In addition to her award-winning The Ordinary Adventurer describing her 2002 Long Trail hike, her AT journal from '03 is also a good read.
