Default Katadyn Hiker Pro filter: reviews?

What are your experiences with the new Katadyn Hiker Pro filter (the blank one)? I recently made a gravity filter based on Just Jeff's instructions. Since the gravity filter uses a Katadyn filter element, it makes sense to replace my Sweetwater with a Katadyn. In this way I intend to carry just one filter element, and swap between the hand pump and gravity filter bag as needed. However, I've read some reviews on REI and sounds like the newer black ones aren't very durable.

I had the nipple break off when pulling the hose off but I believe mine is grey. Bought a new one, repaired the old one, switched to bleach and now use neither one.
