Website for the Ozark Trails Assn. If you are looking for solitude you can find it here on the southern half mostly you can hike for 90 or 100 miles and not see another hiker.

have done several miles around taum sauk mtn, the highest in MO. nice area through there. we would like to do more. if you have a car, also go spend an hour at elephant rocks park, which is nearby. its a neat place. if you go do a section, post reveiw/info on here.Originally Posted by neo

Is this trail well marked? Have been in the Ozarks just in backcountry...real easy to get lost without a GPS, lots of serious nooks and crannies for miles.....then limestone cliffs mixed in. Would like to know more about this trail as well!

There is an audio file interview with Tim Ernst, author of a guidebook for the Ozark Highlands Trail at http://www.trailcast.com. The topic is "Tim Ernst & The Ozark Highlands Trail."
Ive done the OHT in AR, and I have Tim Ernst's guidebook. The OHT in AR is a decent trail, although it is overgrown and poorly marked in many areas. I would not go again in the summer for this reason and because it is the biggest tick infestion I have ever hiked in. We were literally picking them off by the dozens.Originally Posted by trippclark

Yeah, it is pretty new. I don't have a portable MP3 player, but instead download the programs and burn them to audio CD to play in the car. Works great!
