    Default Peters Mounain Bear box?

As the title suggests...does it have one?
The shelters are at odd locations for our hike, but if we hit PM, will have one day less of rope strining.

I never noticed any bear boxes in Pa. The guys I was hiking with were nice enough to guard my food from critters by sleeping near it in the shelters. I hammocked nearby (except in the picture at left, when we did an overnighter at the Winter Warmer hosted by The Doyle Hotel in Duncannon - one of my favorite town spots along the AT).

I forget the name of the shelter off hand but I thought I saw a bear box at the first shelter north of the Susquehanna river.

Just bear bag it, no big deal. Easy to do.

Yes, there is one at the Clarks Ferry Shelter. Last month I put my food in it and a bear had not eaten it by the next morning. Now that is a testimonial, right there!

No bear box at Peter's Mountain. There is one at Quarry Gap and at Clark's Ferry. There are metal bear poles at Birch Run and Toms Run. Other than those, I don't know of a PA shelter with anything more food-safety-oriented than a mouse trapeze. You usually won't need more in PA anyway; the bears and other wildlife along the AT corridor is used to hunting and pretty wary of humans, especially around shelters. If I'm away from a shelter I just hang the food bag at about 10'-15' and never have any trouble.
