Avery Peak and West Peak in heavey clouds looking from Little Gigelow Mt. I almost got “blown off”
the mountain by a strong in the last three minutes to the top of West Peak the day before, the most
frightening experience along the trail besides lightning.

No. I saw that spring in 2006 and according to my journal it's somewhere between Bald Mountain Shelter and No Business Knob Shelter. I've looked for this spring on subsequent hikes in the area, but was unable to find it, so I'm not even sure if it's in the handbook, at least mine, which is Wingfoot's 2006 edition.

When I think of the AT, the first thing I think of is the people, so a picture like this seems appropriate.293455_569248908652_105302314_n.jpg
The way most of the trail itself is in my memory is something like this: a stupidly hot summer day, with occasional views out of the green tunnel over beautiful farm country. 299227_568920032722_1917395079_n.jpg
And finally, I think of this picture most of all. It's the last picture I took in Maine before my camera broke, but it's the best one of the whole trip. 296315_568919139512_509667946_n.jpg

Not sure how that fourth picture got in there, but it's a good one too.

I estimate that he was close to 4 feet tall at the shoulders. On his back legs, he was easily a foot taller than me,, and i am 6'0"

This bear knew i was there, i had to wait 30 minutes for him to leave. He let me know i was too close, and i don't think bear bells would have phased him at all. I don't think he got that big by being afraid of bear bells.

DSC00629.jpgThis is mine. It took me 6 years of hiking and I finally hiked all of the Georgia section in one continuous trip. I couldn't have done it without Mr Breeze and Old Tyme Ed. I went in later in the season and hiked my longest day of 16 miles and also completed another 77 mile section.

shoe.... I can't believe I see you on WB... I followed you some on TJ's when you were hiking in 2008. My daughter was on the trail at the time (strange habit)... good to find you again here. Nice pic. PS. I was also following the hiker "Certain" as well. Do you rememeber her?
