GPS Advice

Apologies for the probably over-posted topic, but I'd like any updated info that might be out there. I'm looking for a GPS unit that would be most helpful for trail projects and monitoring tasks rather than something that is more useful for hikers. Frankly, I'm not even sure there would be a difference--I just don't know much about what's out there. I've never owned a GPS, but volunteers are being asked to provide GPS locations for monitoring of rare plants and boundary issues more and more--so it looks like I'm going to have to move into the new century and get one of these puppies.

So what features to look for and what are useless or should be avoided would be helpful, as well as any first hand field experience you've had with reasonably up to date units.

Finally, just to make it even more complicated, I prefer to use a Mac for any downloading or creating maps.

Basic Garmin with a computer connection would do it. IF you have smart phone there are cheaper programs and services that can installed as apps.

hey guys I have a golf range finder that is also a type of gps, i'm a newbie to this electronics stuff. I bought a bushnell range finder when I found this website http://www.squidoo.com/best-golf-gps-range-finders and I'm curious if any of you have used a golf range finder for a type of hiking gps. I think mine will do ok but if you guys have suggestions of different models or feedback for me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
