I liked the line"The Appalachian Trail is beginning to be Overused".....Now the motard hikers are cutting green trees just a few feet from many shelters.May soon have to rename such shelters as _________ Bald Shelter....
It's kind of strange for them to put that in there, but at the same time put this in there:
"Our preferred route is using the greenways system but, while connectors are being built, we've designated an interim trail along city streets," Devine said."
-- And --
"Dominy said the new trail's city accessibility will give it a different feel and will appeal to an additional kind of outdoor enthusiast -- local ones as well as out-of-town ones -- who are looking for outdoor experiences to improve their quality of life."
Sounds like this trail is more of a cityscape trail with pockets of "wild areas".
The city has a river walk that will be 22 miles long when done. The 8 miles that are done is a wide paved path along the Tennessee River. That is used for walking, running, and biking.
The GET will be part of the river walk for some of it. But not very may options to cross the Tennessee River and still connect to the Cumberland Trail.
Its been known for years that the GET was going through Chattanooga connecting the Pinhoti to the Cumberland Trail. The only problem was figuring out how to connect the trails going through an so much metro area and private property.
