We're having our 10th annual open house on Saturday (tomorrow, December 1). As usual, we'll have homemade cookies (there will be some with A.T. designs if you come early), coffee, and cider.
This year, Brian King, ATC's resident map and book editor and A.T. history expert, will be signing his new book, Appalachian Trail:Celebrating America's Hiking Trail. To celebrate 75 years of the A.T., it has hundreds of beautiful photos and short, readable chapters on A.T. history, including one on Myron Avery and PATC that might be of particular interest especially to local folks.
Brian will be signing his books upstairs by our Benton MacKaye book collection from 10-12 and 1-3. At the beginning of each session, he'll give a brief talk.
This weekend (starting today) is also the beginning of Olde Tyme Christmas in Harpers Ferry. If you want to get away from the lights and shopping, Harpers Ferry is a great place for day-hikes. There are some great free maps at www.nps.gov/hafe/planyourvisit/hikes.htm. We have free parking at ATC, and if our lot is full, there is free street parking nearby.
I hope some White-Blazers can make it!
