    Default Another happy ending

    To a missing person report:

    http://missoulian.com/news/state-and...9bb2963f4.html

Like the guys who were missing in the Park last fall, this guy was prepared to be out in severe weather. He was delayed by even severer weather than he expected, but everything turned out fine.
    If not NOW, then WHEN?

That is great news, to many times these stories don't have a happy ending.

Crosscountry skiing sure looks like it would be fun. I'm too old to start that though. I'll keep to walking. I'll bet they are ultra light in their weights in their packs.

[QUOTE= I'll bet they are ultra light in their weights in their packs.[/QUOTE] In winter in the northern Rockies? Not likely. Winter demands more gear and supplies, as part of being ready to spend extended time out in sub zero weather.

    Never too old.

Nordic backcountry can be mellow. No need to get bomber skis and boots and lunge down a mountain.

Here is an example of some easy terrain my wife and I did recently at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP.

You can do much harder terrain, but plenty of places like the road above to learn how to do it without stressing yourself out.

Non-lift skiing is perhaps the best all around outdoor exercise. Works all the major muscle groups ,promotes balance , works the small muscle groups and helps with cardio. And it is fun!

Mags, I'm not sure of what I'm looking at there (though it looks like a lot of fun). Is that a road you're on?

Maybe get some snowshoes, or use the cross country skies, but think snowshoe...just take small steps (strokes), never to old....A smart man once said..."It's just walkin"

Yes it is. In winter, Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP closes the road and grooms the road for cross-country skiing. Definitely on the more mellow side, but a great way to see a national park.

The dirt bagger gear sled mentioned by Rocketsocks works very well on that type of terrain.
