Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but the Kindle version of Hiking Through: One Man's Journey to Peace and Freedom on the Appalachian Trail is currently on sale for $2.99 on Amazon.
I just purchased it but haven't read it yet. A non-hiking friend read it and recommended it to me.

I was able to pick this book up a while back for free on kindle. It was the first book I read about the AT and sparked my interest in doing a thru Hike. I agree that the cheaper you can get it the better.
