Been there once for a day hike in late November. You can rent a bike at the ferry landing and bike out to the more interesting end of the island if you prefer; stash the bike behind some palmettos off trail and bike back the same day or next day after your overnight. Just don't forget where you left it. Some of the trails are not heavily used (by people) and the animals (?wild pigs) make trails that are more noticeable than the official trails, which can lead to getting lost. A GPS breadcrumb trail would have helped me find my way back to the trail. I saw zillions of armadillos, I mean zillions. Also saw a bobcat, one of only two I have ever seen in the wild. Very cool. Found 3 sand dollars in perfect condition on my beach walk part of the hike. A very nice place.
