Wayah Bald Rd.

Does anyone know if the road to Wayah Bald is open? Also, is it gravel and what kinda shape is it in? Is it easily traveled by most cars? Looking at the probability of being picked up there in a bout 2 weeks.

this road will be opened sometime between March 15 and April 1. You'll have to check with the Nantahala Ranger District for the final word on this.

The wife and I easily drove this road in a Scion xB last summer. Easy graded typical forest service gravel road with some tight turns.

You may consider being picked up at Wayah Gap, the gate may be closed

Thanks everyone for your help. The Ranger office did say that the gate could open before the first of April if weather continues to be good. WE may just stay up there and backtrack the five miles to Wayah rd. the next a.m. for pick-up.
