Default good place to visit hikers

Anybody know a good place to stay to visit hikers around border of Maine-New Hampshire? (about one month into SoBo hike from Maine start)

Gorham, NH would be a nice place. There are some nice places to eat there - and they'd probably appreciate a nice meal.

I agree with MOWGLI16. Gorham would be a good spot. Perhaps the perfect spot.

Every SOBO without exception will stop there, and almost everyone will spend some time there anyway. Perhaps one night, but often more. As such, you woudln't be interrupting the natural flow of things. Your hiker's friends will be stoppoing in Gorham too, for sure.

Apart from what you can offer your hiker in terms of food and good company, he will probably also want to know that you are getting some of the flavor of the mountains yourselves.

Out of Gorham there are a gazzillion ways to do this-- from hiking a very flat couple miles with him to the rattle river shelter when he leaves town, or driving up to the top of Mount Washington before you hook up with them. Or simply taking a shorter walk together to a roadside waterfall. If, as part of your own trip, you need more civilization (big-time outlet shopping, movies, etc,) North Conway isn't too far south.

Yea, Gorham could be the perfect place.

Catching on to Richboudrie's suggestion. If you think you would like to get a taste of the AT. An idea is see when you can make a reservation at Lakes of the Clouds AMC Hut. Meet your kids up on top of Mt. Washington via cog railway from the west. Hike down with them to US 302. Spending the night at the hut. Then you can take the AMC shuttle to the Ammonoosuc Trailhead and your car. This would be mostly an all downhill hike and after doing this you could really e jealous. Biggest problem is making reservations. See the http://www.outdoors.org website. Coordinating good weather, their arrival and advance reservations can be difficult.
