Default Good scale for weighing gear

As the years go by, I am more atuned to reducing the weight of my gear.

What scales are recommended? I assume "postal scales" is the category we are talking about. I am near a Staples, if this source is okay.

    Thank you.

I'd get more than one scale. A small scale that can measure small items to at least a tenth of a gram. A hook scale for bigger items. Both types should have a tare button that would allow you to use a bowl or bag to be used to hold the item you intend to weigh. You can get both for less than $20 if you buy online. I'm not sure about in the store. Postal scales can work, so can kitchen scales. I prefer scales that use AA or AAA batteries, or plug into the wall.

I was going to suggest an office supply store - Staples would be perfect.

Good old Wally world. Get a digital fish scale - $19.95 good up to 50 pounds. For small stuff a postal scale is good. Worth having both.

I've been using digital bathroom scale, and a triple beam, but hate doing the conversion...one day I'll drop the 20 bucks and pick up a digital postal scale.....

I use a $20 kitchen scale from Target. Good for up to 5kg I think.

Everything over that I use a hanging fish scale. Less than $20 at Wally World.

It depends on your degree of fanaticism. If you have it real bad then 2 calibrated digital scales are required. The small scale should give you 4 decimel points and the larger one should go to 40 pounds and give 2 decimel points. A set of calibration standards will be needed. These are little metal cubes that come with the exact weight stamped on them so you can adjust your scale. Of course in high end serious weight calculations of this type it much easier to use the metric system. Now if you just want to weigh your backpack than an 8 dollar Wal-mart spring type fish scale works great.

Bed, Bath and Bi has them...
Kitchen scales that are pretty sensitive and hold up to around five pounds, I think.
