    Question New cook system

I'm looking at replacing my entire cook system with something light, easy to use, and relatively inexpensive. (But not home built, I have three thumbs, all in the middle.) Basically, I'd be using it for over night backpacking right now. Later I may upgrade to lighter and/or better gear.

    What I'm looking at is:

It looks like a small canister will fit inside the minimalist, but the stove won't.

    Any thoughts?

Also, for a little more money, there's the MSR Microrocket. It's a little more expensive, but may fit inside of the Minimalist with a small canister. Would that be a better option?

Are there any other inexpensive canister stoves that would fit inside the Minimalist with a small canister?

The Soto Micro Regulator stove will fit inside with a small canister. Also, take a peak at the Snow Peak Minimalist set.

If you are considering the MicroRocket, then take a look at the LiteMax, it is more fuel efficient and a bit lighter for the same cost.

Doesn't that make hitch hiking awkward?

Will the LiteMax, a small canister, and the Minimalist accessories fit inside the Minimalist?

I haven't successfully hitched in several decades. That might be the problem.

Your right fcoulter...small canister will fit inside the minimalist.

As for burners, I know the.....
Optimus folding crux will fit underneath your canister. Wide headed burner.
Kovea camp 56 will fit on top. Medium spread burner head.
Edelrid kiro ti will fit on top. Bunsen burner hot spot head.
Not sure if the microrocket will fit....might be a tad tight.

I'm sure you will get some more ideas from other members.

Just add a folding spork/spoon + lightmyfire striker, close the lid, and you've got yourself
    a compact little system.
All can be tracked down on ebay. Happy hunting.

For my cook kit, I use the Snow Peak Giga Power stove and an Imusa 12 cm mug. The spoon/fork combo is actually a reproduction of a WW1 German army utensil. Pay no attention to the tin cup, I have had that for years from my day of CW reenacting and carry it out of tradition.

    An update:

I've just ordered a Snow Peak LiteMax Stove ($59.95) and a GSI Outdoors Halulite Minimalist Cookware Set ($23.20) from Amazon. I'll be testing them out on an overnight trip later this month. I'll let you know how they work out when I get back.

Take a look at what this kit looks like:

I got the fire maple hornet (1.7 oz), and though I had trouble with it at first, the trouble was my fault...my canister was dirty. Turns out the stove works great.

I keep it in it's bag, inside a snow peak TI 600, along with the snowpeak lips, and a small canister. I also made a cozy and lid (the bottom of a small nedo can fits perfectly on top of the SN 600) for it.

caveat emptor: I have yet do to any backpacking, so take this for what it's worth.

Should also mention that the small canister is a very tight fit, so I tied a piece of string around it for ease of removal.
