I drove the entire length of FS 42 in a 2010 Hyundai Elantra on April 30th and again on May 1st. On May 6th and May 7th, I drove from Doublehead Gap Rd to the parking lot at Big Stamp. No problems with the road while it was raining, though there are a few potholes. Several times I stopped to clear rocks and branches after the May 5th storm. It's a good road.

No problem going out to Double Gap Rd towards Blairsville/Blue Ridge/Elijay from the Springer Mt TH parking lot just two days after heavy rains about a month ago in a compact car. Just be careful of a few soft shoulders. It's mostly hard pack with some gravel. This is a commonly used TH and the Forest Service maintains FS 42.

I took a Suzuki XL7 up to Springer Mtn parking lot on May 13th this year. The road is passable, however rough and the rocks stick up like nails. We drove slowly because normal car tires not meant for such abuse.
