Does anyone know the current condition of FS 42? We were hoping to start off at Springer from this access road to the parking lot. (hoping to avoid the 8.8 mile approach trail) Has anyone been on it recently? Is it something that requires 4WD? Any information would be great! Thank you in advance.

We have a house just south of Amicalola. We have gotten 3 inches of rain in the padt 24 hours and 10 inches in the month before that. In dry weather FS42 is pretty decent and we can traverse it easily in our Nissan Rogue SUV. Given the heavy rains I expect it to be badly rutted and muddy so a 4 wheel drive is definitely advisable.

regardless of time of yearmI recommend that you approach FS42 via Rackley Rd. about 7 miles east of Ellijay at Highway 52. Stay away from the aniblewill Church Rd. approach, it will rattle the fillings out of your teeth and is in bad shape under dry conditions...

I go there frequently but I'm not familiar with Rackley Rd. Do you have any additional info on where it is exactly. Does it run directly off of 52?

Yeah, it runs into Roy Road. Little quicker if coming from AFSP. I live in Marietta so Big Creek is quickest for me.

Yes, Rackley intersects 52 just East of Mack Aaron's Apple House near Cartecay. Google it for directions. It's our prrferred route. Roy Road is another alternative from the Cartecay area but it is more windey than Rackley.
