    Thanks Trillium.
I knew I recognized the name, trying to put a face to it is harder.
I didn't make it last year to the gathering.
Was up in Maine at the time.
I'm always in the states for the fall.
Usually head back here to Phuket around Christmas.

Yeah, I figured it was probably somewhere around 12k miles as a time zone is usually about 1,000 miles.
Your way is a bit more accurate.

Ozzies and Kiwis definitely live further away than me.

Hoping to! Thing is there could be 50,000 or more people up there for the re-enactment, so traffic is a huge deal. We thought we'd take our trailer up so that we could just walk to it all from a local campground but the campgrounds nearest it were already booked up. We do take visitors up there and my outdoors group is going to bike the road around the battlefield in late July.

My mountain home sits about 225 yards from the trail. But the foot path from my back door to the trail is a bit less than 400 yards. From the end of the driveway to Gooch Gap via FS42 is .8 miles. But the driveway is about 400 yards so when added in puts it just over a mile by car.

I'm about 180 miles east of Bangor Maine, which is about 100 miles downriver of Katahdin.

I would guess about 80 miles or so to Carver's Gap.

WOW!! That is really close. Another WBer said they were 3/4 of a mile by car from the trail. I can't even imagine being that close!

3/4 mile to Shay's Rebellion, MA. With the AT close I do hike the same sections and the various blue trails repeatedly but never get tired of them. I enjoy giving the thru hikers rides into town. Already had one NOBO on Memorial day weekend. He started the trail in Jan.

So that got me thinking. Who lives the furthest from the AT? I found that this this house in Windy Harbour, Western Australia is 11,627 from the closest point of the AT (which is also Katahdin).

Not sure about miles and too lazy right now to map it, but it took me 45 minutes yesterday to get to the Snickers Gap road crossing/trailhead just north of Bears Den.

I live about $400 away ..at least that is how much it cost for gas to get to the trail 2 weeks ago ... as my section hikes go north I get farther and farther away and the cost to get to the trail keeps going up..Old Man River ..Plano Texas
