Default Hiking film coming to DC area

Greetings, trail and film fans -

    American Hiking Society
, a Silver-Spring-based, national nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of trails and the hiking experience, is
working with The Muir Project to promote a June 29 East Coast premiere of a documentary film about the John Muir Trail (JMT) at American University. The film, entitled Mile... Mile & a Half, is a splendid tale of the experiences encountered by a team of artists, musicians, and photographers during their month-long journey on the JMT. The film is wonderfully inspirational and cuts the right balance between showing beautiful vistas of mountaintop scenery and depicting the sometimes difficult realities of life on the trail - steep, exhausting climbs;unexpectedly deep snowpack; wrong turns; and heavy backpacks. It's a great film that can be enjoyed both by avid hikers who might like a preview of the trail before tackling it themselves and also less adventurous folks who would otherwise not be able to experience this wilderness gem. Click here to view the trailer.

Tickets are now available for the 7 pm screening on Saturday, June 29 in the Greenberg Theater at American University. Join us for the chance to see this great film and meet a member of The Muir Project team as well as American Hiking staffers. You'll enjoy seeing the film -- and will have the added satisfaction of knowing that the filmmakers are generously donating a portion of the proceeds to American Hiking Society to protect the trails where you love to hike. Giveaways at the screening include a one-year AllTrails.com membership from National Geographic Maps, granola bars from KIND, and more.

Enter a Facebook contest fora chance to win a free pair of tickets. Or click here to buy tickets and be sure to act quickly - space is limited, and most of the showings to date have been sold out! We also need a few volunteers for the screening, so please send an email if you are interested in helping.
