    Default Advice on day hike

I'm looking to plan a day hike on the AT. I live not far from front royal and would like to do a 10 mile hike. Any suggestions of a point where my hubby can drop me off and then pick me up later in the day? Thanks in advance

I actually did part of that section last week. If I started in Front Royal at the base of SNP, is there an outlet about 10 miles north of there?

Thank you! Do you happen to know where I can find out where I can access the trail from these points?

    Hi KelBel,
I lived in Linden, VA 22 years and know the area well. Mr KelBel could drop you off at Rt 55 & Tucker Ln. Linden, where the AT crosses Rt 55. Hike north passing Manassas Gap Shelter, Dicks Dome Shelter, on toward Sky Meadows State Park boundary. When you arrive at the mountain top take a trail to your left and that will lead to Signal Knob parking lot where Mr KelBel could pick you up. Mr KelBel can get to the parking lot by driving North on Rt 638 (Freezland Rd) about 7.5 miles, drive down Fire Trail Rd about 2.5 miles to the parking lot, This parking lot is the 2nd one after he passes DeerPath Ln.
(The AT Guide book says it's Rt 638/Fire Trail Rd.. The book is mistaken, it is Fire Trail Rd only because Rt 638 turns left down the mountain at Fire Trail Rd. entrance). Total distance 8 miles. If you wish to go further, Mr KelBel could pick you up on US RT 50, 11.6 miles. If you have any questions do not hesitate to PM me.

I was about to mention some places but seems like you already found some good locations. Good luck for your work.
